Head Injury Testing Across Marion County
From Dunnellon to Fort McCoy, testing comes to the treating provider. We diagnose. You treat.
Marion County is large and much of it is rural. This page is for practices and patients outside central Ocala, where the nearest specialty evaluation can be a long drive away. Braintree tests at the treating provider's office wherever it is in the county.
Geography
A county where distance is the obstacle
Marion County stretches from the Ocala National Forest and the Ocklawaha River on the east to Rainbow Springs and the Withlacoochee River near Dunnellon on the west. Growth along SR 200 and in Marion Oaks and Silver Springs Shores has brought many new residents, while the north of the county around Reddick, McIntosh, and Citra remains largely farm and horse country.
For someone recovering from a head injury, that spread matters. Patients told not to drive, older residents who no longer drive at night, and families with one car all struggle to reach appointments across the county. A testing visit at the practice they already use removes that barrier.
Areas and main routes
Who gets hurt, and how
Head injuries look different across the county
Head injuries in the county's southern retirement communities, including the Marion County portion of The Villages area, are more often falls. In the equine farms to the north and west they can come from riding and barn work. On SR 40 through the national forest, rural two-lane crashes are a concern, and along the I-75 corridor motor vehicle collisions dominate.
Whatever the mechanism, the approach is the same: the treating provider refers, we test at their office using standardized measures, and a physician-reviewed report goes back to that provider. For falls in older adults, our guide on concussion in older adults after a fall offers general background, and our when to go to the ER guide covers warning signs.

Testing, not treatment
